Nasutitermes or Nasutes in Mounds
Here are the details of a recent photo sent to our termite identification service.
Hi,
These are running around in my house.
Its where the bathroom tiles meet the hallway. Its happened in the past week (that is visible)
District: south-west WA
I’ve seldom received such quality photos; makes my ID job easy!
These are Nasutitermes or Nasutes which live in a mound.
Simple message: look around, find and destroy the mound physically or with insecticidal help. Here’s the Killing termites in mounts to fully explain.
Nasutes only build mounds and it is faster and cheaper to find a mound than to try and add termite bait to them in the house. If you can find a mud tunnel up the foundations into the house, scrape it off to stop immediate entry. The ones trapped up in the house will dry out and die within a week or so.
