Denying termites access to wood
By forcing them to show themselves crossing impervious materials such as concrete or even the humble metal ant-cap gives you the best chance possible to do something before the dollars skyrocket.
Regularly and closely inspect wood items on your property such as decks, steps, retaining walls, wooden lawn seats and other wooden items.
Do not assume that your house frame is composed of pre-treated termite-resistant lumber unless you built the house and you specified the material.
Only H4, H5 and H6 grades of pre-treated lumber are termite-resistant. Lower lumber grades resist only mould and decay.
Placing Wood on Concrete Barriers May Not Deter Termites
Termites have an amazing ability to find wood. If they cannot tunnel through masonry and metallic materials to get it, they will tunnel over it. If you don’t have termite food stacked up, even on bricks or metal stands, they will have less interest in your property.
Place Termite Monitors near Railway Sleeper retaining walls
Old railway sleepers may add a pleasing rustic appeal to your garden but are an obvious food source for termites. Instead of tearing them out, consider placing termite monitors near the sleepers to attract any existing termites. Insert the safe bait into the monitors once you see termite activity and continue to feed them until the termites are gone. This termite control method helps you save your sleepers and the style of your home!
